The licensing of potato exports from Belarus has been extended for another three months, as per a decree by the Council of Ministers dated March 25, 2025. The decree was published today on the National Legal Portal.
According to the document, fresh or chilled potatoes, except for seed potatoes, can only be exported outside the country with one-time licenses issued by the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade in coordination with regional executive committees or the Minsk City Executive Committee.
The restrictions do not apply to potatoes exported as humanitarian aid or supplies nor to those moved in transit.
The grounds for refusing to approve the issuance of a license are non-compliance with the ratio of available potato resources in Belarus (regionally or in Minsk) and the country's need for them, which must be at least 80 percent.
It should be noted that potato export licensing was introduced in Belarus in mid-December 2024 for an initial three-month period. Therefore, the current term has now expired.
