Brazil is seeking to enhance its agricultural trade with the Philippines, offering products like apples, peanuts, and onions. Luis Rua, secretary of trade and international relations at Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, highlighted Brazil's readiness to support the Philippines in managing inflation through these exports. Rua stated, "These are the three products that we think we can, in a way, help the Philippine government to control inflation and also offer very good, very high-quality products."
For onions, Brazil is working on a technical agreement, a prerequisite for exporting agricultural products to the Philippines. This move comes as the Philippine Statistics Authority reported a decrease in inflation, with the consumer price index slowing to 2.1 per cent in February from 2.9 per cent in January.
Rua emphasized the positive bilateral relationship, stating, "The relationship is very good. There is a lot of transparency between both authorities." He also mentioned plans to introduce new products into the trade relationship, such as acai.
Brazil's strategy includes expanding its export portfolio and increasing the importation of Philippine products. The focus remains on fostering a transparent and cooperative trade environment to benefit both countries.
