Fully automatic vertical farm enables vegetable growing in the smallest of spaces

"Just plug it in and let it grow" – that's the slogan of the Viennese start-up omni.farm. The device of the same name is supposed to deliver two to three kilos of fresh vegetables and fresh herbs within two to eight weeks, depending on the variety. And all without a "green thumb".

This is because the Vertical Farm, which has a footprint the size of a dinner plate, provides both the right watering and the right (LED) lighting fully automatically when plugged in. The omni.farm is planted with "omni.pods", capsules with substrate, seeds, and the right amount of fertilizer. Up to twelve (different) plants can grow in one device at the same time. You only need to top up the water once a week; otherwise, you can't go wrong, according to the start-up led by founders Paul Holler and Aaron Waidmann.
