Vietnamese lychee exports to China rise with trade agreements

Vietnam, with its favorable geography, hosts a variety of fruits. Recent trade agreements between China and Vietnam have led to a rise in Vietnamese fruit exports to China. Vietnamese lychees, known for their texture and flavor, are popular among Chinese consumers.

In 2024, Vietnam signed agricultural trade agreements with China, enhancing market access. Vietnamese lychees are now available in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai and on e-commerce platforms.

During summer, trucks with Vietnamese lychees move through the Honghe River freight channel at Hekou County port in Yunnan Province, maintaining supply to Chinese consumers. In May 2024, over 6,600 tons of lychees passed through Hekou, impacting fruit markets and port economic activity.

Hekou Port, Yunnan's largest land port on the China-Vietnam border, facilitates cross-border trade. During peak tropical fruit seasons, customs expedite clearance for perishable goods. With developed road and rail connections, customs policies, and growing exchanges, Hekou Port is also a gateway for Vietnamese travelers to China.
