"Pomegranate production levels are on par with those of last year"

It's been smooth sailing for the pomegranate season in India, with similar production levels as last year, says Sumit Bhujbal, Business Development Manager of Indian fresh produce exporter Shubham Enterprises: "The pomegranate season in India is progressing smoothly. Our shipments are actively loading for international markets, including Malaysia, the Middle East, and Sri Lanka. Production levels are on par with those of last year. The Bhagwa variety remains the most widely exported type of pomegranate from India, although its availability and pricing do vary. Maharashtra continues to be the primary producer, offering pomegranates year-round, with pricing fluctuating throughout the seasons."

According to Bhujbal, increased demand in both local and international markets has led to slightly higher prices at a farm level. "Demand for pomegranates remains robust, showing a consistent annual increase. Notably, this year, there is a significant uptick in local demand, contributing to a surge in farm rates by approximately 10% to 15%. Additionally, we are witnessing a stronger demand in international markets compared to last year. Weather conditions have been favorable this season, with no unexpected rains impacting the harvest. The pomegranates have been harvested smoothly. However, as the summer season progresses and temperatures rise, there may be an effect on the color quality of the fruit."

Prices are expected to remain stable throughout the season, Bhujbal explains: "This year, prices for Rajasthan pomegranates are ranging between $1.2 to $2.3 per kg, while Gujarat pomegranates are priced between $1.3 to $2.4 per kg, and Maharashtra pomegranates range from $1.7 to $3.5 per kg. Given the current demand and quality, we expect prices to remain stable throughout the season. Looking ahead, we anticipate sustained demand and the availability of high-quality fruits. We expect prices to hold steady at current levels due to the ongoing market conditions."

"The 2025 pomegranate season in India is characterized by consistent production, robust demand, and favorable conditions for exports. With strong local and international markets, farmers and exporters are optimistic about the remainder of the season," Bhujbal concludes.
