Table grapes are a seasonal product, and the market is characterized by seasonal fluctuations: during the summer and autumn campaigns, the Italian product is at the center of attention, while in winter and spring, the counter-seasonal product from overseas finds its way onto the supermarket shelves. Andrea Peviani, Commercial Director of Peviani S.p.A., assesses the current market dynamics.

Peviani S.p.A.'s sales manager explains that the company was among the first in Italy to introduce seedless grapes based on a thorough analysis of foreign markets. Through continuous varietal research and the implementation of innovative and sustainable agricultural technologies, we have successfully established seedless grapes as one of our top categories. Our success in this category can be attributed to our commitment to quality, consistency, and taste profile. "We meticulously select our agricultural partners and are dedicated to ongoing innovation."

Peviani imports off-season seedless grapes only when they are not available in Apulia, where the Peviani family farms and other local growers who share the same values have formed the O.P. Athena growers' organization.
"It is from the controlled, certified, and integrated supply chain of O.P. Athena that Peviani's Italian seedless grapes are produced, which are commercialized from July to December. The remaining months are reserved for imports from overseas. We have established partnerships with growers in Peru, South Africa, Chile, and Egypt. These have been stable partners for several years, with whom we share values and high-quality standards, as well as production specifications. The Italian market has its own peculiarities in terms of quality: in particular, the color of the grapes is of great importance. It is only thanks to these collaborations, established over time, that we can guarantee a product that meets the expectations of our market."

The market for seedless grapes is expanding due to its appeal to consumers seeking a traditional product without seeds and its popularity among younger consumers.
Peviani further adds, "We import white, red, and black seedless grapes, focusing on premium varieties that we believe are more suitable for our market. At present, prices are aligned with the historical average and are influenced by the substantial influx of Indian grapes entering the European market."

Regarding packaging, the most popular type is the 500g one-piece hinged clamshell with snap closure packaging. On occasion, this format is also offered in a heat-sealed tray or flow pack. During the Italian grape season, larger weights, such as family-size options of 800g or 1kg, are also frequently seen.
"We can offer all these tailor-made solutions according to our customers' requests," Andrea Peviani concludes.
