Terraviva AG was founded in 1946 and today brings together around 90 organic producers from across Switzerland — "from Lake Constance to Lake Geneva," as Martin Koller of InnoPlattform Bio GmbH and a consultant at Terraviva AG, explains. The wide geographic distribution is intentional: "It helps us better manage risks related to weather, disease, and pests," he says.

In 2024, a new state-of-the-art facility was opened in Kerzers – a milestone for the organic vegetable trade. Covering almost one hectare, the site is used for storage, washing, sorting, and packaging. "We process around 25,000 to 30,000 metric tons of organic vegetables here every year," explains CEO Werner Brunner. The range is dominated by classics such as carrots and potatoes. A very generous photovoltaic system supplies green electricity, and 90 percent of the washing water is reused. "This enables us to save around 80 percent of fresh water," says Juha Pfister, Head of Technology and Infrastructure at Terraviva AG. An interesting detail: there is a separate water cycle for celery and beetroot. "This is because celery can cause allergies, and beetroot turns water red," explains Juha Pfister.
