Peruvian fresh ginger had a difficult start this year, as export values decreased in January and February. In March, there was a rebound, with shipments totalling 2,671 tons worth $5.74 million. This is 30% more volume and a 17% increase in value over the same month in 2024. However, average prices remained low, going from $2.40 per kilogram in 2024 to $2.15 in 2025.
Peru exported ginger to 16 markets in March. The United States was the main market, with a 69% share. The country shipped 1,802 tons to the US for $4.16 million and an average price of $2.31 per kilogram. This is 76% more volume and 40% more value than in the same month of 2024. The average price per kilogram, however, fell by 21%, from $2.40 in 2024 to $2.15 in 2025.
The Netherlands was the second destination with a 13% share, 371 tons worth $757,000, and an average price of $2.04 per kilogram. Compared to the same month in 2024, exports to this market decreased by 27% in volume and 25% in value; however, the average cost increased by 3%.
Spain ranked third with a 4% share, 93 tons worth $237,666, and an average price of $2.56 per kilogram. Exports to this market increased by 33% in volume, 44% in value, and 8% in average cost over the previous year.
