Grubmarket acquires Delta Fresh to expand produce distribution

GrubMarket, a U.S.-based technology company involved in food supply chain services and e-commerce, has acquired Delta Fresh Produce, a Nogales, Arizona-based fresh produce distributor with operations across Mexico and the United States. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Delta Fresh specializes in the distribution of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, grapes, and watermelons, sourcing produce from a broad network of growers in Mexico. The company operates over 900 acres of open-field and 1,400 acres of indoor production, supported by packing facilities across Baja, Sonora, Sinaloa, and Central Mexico. The company supplies a range of customers, including major grocery chains such as Walmart and Kroger, restaurant chains including Subway and Chipotle, and foodservice distributors such as Sysco and AWG.

Established in 1928, Delta Fresh is a multigenerational family business. It is currently led by Atanasio Panousopoulos, who has overseen the company's expansion in the U.S. and developed warehouse operations in Nogales (156,000 sq. ft), McAllen, Texas (80,000 sq. ft), and San Diego, California (30,000 sq. ft). Panousopoulos will remain in his role following the acquisition.

Delta Fresh has emphasized food safety, maintaining Primus GFS certification and implementing practices that include random audits of growing and distribution operations.

Following the acquisition, Delta Fresh will gain access to GrubMarket's technology infrastructure, including software for financial management, order processing, inventory tracking, logistics, and digital payments. GrubMarket says these systems are designed to support wholesale and distribution operations within the food supply chain.

GrubMarket CEO Mike Xu stated that the acquisition enhances the company's ability to supply produce across North America year-round. Panousopoulos commented that the integration of technology into Delta Fresh's operations is expected to support future growth.

Delta Fresh is expected to continue operating under its current leadership while integrating into GrubMarket's broader network and technology platform.
