Lebanon seizes 55 tons of smuggled apples and pears

The Customs Directorate's Anti-smuggling Unit, directed by the Agriculture Ministry and coordinated with the Ministry of Economy, intercepted 55 tons of smuggled apples and pears, transferring the entire load to the Lebanese Army. The operation, which spanned two days, resulted in fines totaling 17.6 billion Lebanese pounds, double the value of the confiscated goods.

The initiative aims to curb smuggling activities that impact the agricultural economy and food safety. The Ministry of Agriculture reiterated its stance, stating, "Combating smuggling is a national priority," and highlighted ongoing collaboration with authorities to dismantle smuggling networks, enforce legal measures, protect local produce, and maintain market stability and public health.
