From April 10 to 12, the international fruit industry gathered in the Greek port city of Thessaloniki for Freskon 2025. With almost 300 exhibitors and around 5,000 international trade visitors from some 40 countries, the organizing team can look back on a successful event. Due to strikes at the national airports and the correspondingly low number of visitors, the first day fell through. On the second and third day, however, the trade fair was very well attended, according to exhibitors and visitors.
"The current cold front shaped the talks on site," reports Thanos Motsiopoulos, sales manager at Nutrifrucht GmbH, based in Unterföhring. The company (formerly Oettle & Griesmeyer) is mainly dedicated to the import and distribution of Greek fruit and vegetable products, including stone fruit. "The current weather is endangering the start of the upcoming peach and nectarine harvest, which is noticeably leading to uncertainty in the industry."

Cosy, informal atmosphere
However, the forecasts in the respective stone fruit-growing areas vary greatly. "Clear statements about the course of the season can therefore only be made around May 20," says Motsiopoulos, who also points out the further influences of the current cold spell on the ongoing asparagus season. Despite the circumstances, the management of the German-Greek trading company can look back on a successful trade fair appearance. "For us, this year's Freskon was once again an excellent platform for creating a good basis for sales in the coming months. What really sets this trade fair apart are the contacts and conversations that take place outside the exhibition center, in the numerous restaurants in the city. This cozy, informal atmosphere is unique to Freskon."
