Belize citrus exports show signs of recovery

During the 2025 Budget Debate at Independence Hill in Belmopan, Belize's Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, Jose Mai, highlighted signs of recovery within the local citrus sector. He emphasized that "export earnings from orange concentrate" rose from $24.6 million in 2023 to $33.5 million in 2024. The total value of citrus-related exports reached $38.5 million.

Despite the industry not yet reaching its historical peak, there is optimism concerning the potential for stabilization through improved global prices and the introduction of new citrus strains. This shift creates a cautious outlook for the industry, with projections indicating an output of 600,000 boxes in the current crop year.
