Berry imports from Kyrgyzstan rise in Kirov, Omsk takes preventive measures

From January to October 2025, the Kirov region, Russia, imported 35.4 tons of fresh berries (raspberries and strawberries) from Kyrgyzstan, an eightfold increase from 4.2 tons in the same period in 2024. Inspections conducted confirmed that the shipments were free of quarantine pests, and a phytosanitary certificate was issued, allowing the berries to enter the local market.

In contrast, the Omsk regional office prevented the import of 2.9 tons of strawberries from Kyrgyzstan contaminated with the parasitic plant dodder (Cuscuta sp.). Following herbological confirmation, the contaminated batch was destroyed to prevent the spread of the pest, which can damage crops and reduce yields.

Since the start of 2025, 115 cases of imported plant products contaminated with quarantine organisms have been recorded in the Omsk region.
