The Australian kiwifruit season started in late February/early March and despite the wet weather the quality has been good.
Victoria is the main producing state of kiwifruit, followed by New South Wales and Western Australia.
"Considering the amount of poor weather Australia has had in the past year, the quality has been very good," said Susan Lewis from Murray Bros.
Murray Bros currently has one of the largest supply bases of growers and packing sheds in Australia, covering every major growing district in every state of Australia. The company also imports products to fill any supply gaps in the domestic growing seasons, in particular, New Zealand kiwi fruit and avocados.
"Volumes of kiwifruit produced in Australia have been increasing over the last couple of years, but this year will not see an increase in volumes due to wet weather. There is green kiwifruit coming from Victoria and New South Wales and gold from Victoria and Western Australia."
The Australian season is complemented by imports from New Zealand, the first arrivals of green kiwifruit arrived in late May.
"We receive both gold and green kiwifruit from New Zealand. This year New Zealand volumes are lower due to last year's weather events and supply will be short this year, but the quality is looking very good."
