Banana sustainability strategy to be unveiled in Monterey

One Banana is proud to announce its participation in the Organic Produce Summit (OPS) next month. This year marked a significant milestone for this family-owned, vertically integrated company as it unveiled PlanetA, a new sustainability strategy designed to drive tangible change and redefine sustainable food systems.

At OPS, the company is excited to expand its network and showcase its sustainable fresh bananas, including premium and organic varieties. It will highlight its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and fostering a healthier planet through responsible agricultural practices.

This year, the company introduced PlanetA, a new sustainability strategy designed to drive tangible change and redefine sustainable food systems.

"With PlanetA, we are determined to make a difference and set new standards for what a sustainable food system truly entails. At OPS, we want to show what we are achieving and the objectives we have set to grow sustainable, great-tasting bananas," said Rob Adams, president of One Banana.

PlanetA emerges from the essence of One Banana, with a profound focus on the planet, underscoring the company's mission to foster change through sustainability. It embodies the belief that Earth is our only home and everyone's responsibility, setting One Banana's action plan to nurture our shared home.

Recognizing that growth and profitability are crucial to success, One Banana endorses a perspective that transcends mere financial gain. "We believe that true success lies in integrating economic growth with environmental management and social responsibility. We aim to surpass neutrality and achieve Net Positivity – where our actions not only mitigate but actively contribute to a thriving planet," said Javier Aguirre, chief sustainability officer.

One Banana is determined to drastically reduce corporate carbon emissions.

The company's commitment to sustainability includes setting a Net Zero target. Aligned with science-based reduction targets outlined by the SBT initiative, One Banana is determined to drastically reduce corporate carbon emissions. This commitment contributes to the Gigaton Project's goal of reducing, avoiding, or sequestering over one gigaton of CO2e emissions alongside other companies. Since 2023, One Banana has achieved the Giga Guru status, a Walmart recognition.

In a pilot model, One Banana is spearheading the adoption and establishment of regenerative agriculture practices for sustainable banana farming. Through close collaboration with global NGOs and academia, it is developing a production model that champions environmental regeneration while ensuring agricultural productivity.

One Banana looks forward to sharing more about PlanetA at OPS 2024, and its sustainably grown bananas and food ingredients. It is inviting attendees to stop by its booth, #213, to learn how it is making a difference.
