Peruvian mandarin exports fell in May

Peru exported 17,732 tons of mandarin for $22.8 million in May of this year, i.e. 42.5% less volume and 28.8% less value over the same month of last year. Despite this drop, the mandarin's average price per kilogram increased by 23.9% going from $1.09 to $1.29, partially mitigating the decrease in export volume.

Peru sold its mandarin to 24 international markets, two more than in the previous year. The United States continued to be the main destination with a 56.8% share, which translates to 9,625 tons worth $13.0 million and an average price of $1.35 per kilogram. Canada ranked second with a 10.0% share (2,095 tons for $2.3 million) and an average price of $1.09 per kilogram.

Other relevant markets included Japan, with a 7.6% share (equivalent to $1.7 million and a price of $1.59 per kilogram); the United Kingdom (also with a 7.6% share, but for $1.08 per kilogram), and the Netherlands (with a 5.3% share, purchases worth $1.2 million, and a price of $1.17 per kilogram). Fresh mandarin exports accounted for 98.5% of all mandarin exports.
