Plantis Group: new packaging for northern Europe

Apulian grapes: first bunches headed to Scandinavia and the Baltic area in a few days' time

Plantis Group, a company that supplies wholesalers and foreign big retail chains, reports that the first quantities of Victoria and Black Magic grapes from Puglia are expected by week 26 of 2024, right after the commercialization of Sicilian productions under the Mia brand.

"Harvesting is imminent. The warm temperatures of the past few days have accelerated ripening. Our producers in Puglia will enable us to supply different grape varieties - both seedless and traditional - to our foreign clients located mainly in Scandinavia and the Baltic area until mid-November. We have been selling Sicilian grapes for over one month, with 2 articulated trucks departing for supermarkets every week."

"We must point out that the high starting price limited exports, also due to the presence on the European markets of the last produce available from overseas, which made the Italian produce not very competitive. Then seedless grapes from Egypt arrived, which some buyers preferred to ours even at the same price. Now the situation is improving and local productions tend to increase with a gradual depreciation," reports CEO Claudio D'Alba.

Red Globe variety.

Seedleess cultivars continue to acquire considerable market shares. "The exported volumes of seedless grapes grow by 10 to 15% every year, while those of traditional grapes decrease. This change also concerns eastern European countries such as Poland."

Plantis Group is going to introduce a new cardboard packaging dedicated to Apulian grapes, studied to improve the customer experience. "The box can hold 800 g and is colorful, appealing and recyclable. The idea is to make purchases faster and simpler for the entire ethnic clientele in northern Europe."
