OSY Group secures funding to expand its food preservation technology globally

OSY Group, a UK-based food technology company, has received a grant from Innovate UK Business Growth to expand its antimicrobial packaging technology, Xtend, internationally. This technology, aimed at extending the shelf-life of fresh produce, is set to enter markets across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, and other Asia-Pacific countries. Xtend works by embedding microscopic pins in packaging to puncture and kill microbes, thereby slowing down spoilage.

The technology has been extensively tested in the UK, confirming its safety and compliance with Food Contact Materials regulations. With over £500,000 in funding from Innovate UK, OSY Group plans to accelerate its research and development efforts. This will enable the adaptation of Xtend for various markets and climates, and extend its application beyond fruits and vegetables to include meats, fish, poultry, and bakery products.

Marc Braterman, CEO of OSY Group, emphasized the global impact of food waste and the potential of their technology to address this issue. The company is exploring overseas partnerships and collaborative R&D projects to further its reach. Innovate UK Business Growth supports OSY Group's aim to commercialize its technology globally, recognizing its potential to contribute to food preservation and waste reduction.
