Appeal to reopen all PMC-controlled markets

Utilization of vegetable markets under scrutiny in Pune

In Pune, India, the local government has established 46 vegetable markets with public funds. Despite the investment, these facilities are underutilized, with some being repurposed for unauthorized activities. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Pune has raised concerns over the closure of these markets, highlighting the inconvenience to citizens who resort to purchasing from street vendors.

Sudarshan Jagdale, a senior leader from AAP Pune, emphasized, "We request a thorough investigation into this matter and prompt reopening of the markets for public use." The party has observed that closed official markets have led to the proliferation of weekly markets, often at higher prices for consumers. AAP has issued a call for transparency on the status and reasons for the non-operation of these markets, urging the municipality to ensure their availability for 12–15 hours daily to alleviate public hardship.
