Greek coast guard intercepts cocaine hidden in banana shipment from Ecuador

Greek coast guard officials have intercepted over 35 kilograms of cocaine concealed within a banana shipment from Ecuador. The narcotics, with a street value exceeding 1 million euros, were discovered in a sea container's cooling system at Piraeus port, thanks to collaboration with the Homeland Security Investigations unit of the U.S. embassy in Athens.

This seizure is part of a broader trend, as South American cocaine production has expanded, making Europe the largest market for the substance. Additionally, Greek authorities have recently dismantled a group involved in trafficking cocaine from Latin America to Europe in shipping containers. These actions highlight the ongoing efforts to combat international drug trafficking.
