Ailimpo has forecast that Spain will produce 1,260,000 tons of lemon in the 2024/2025 season, i.e. 21% less than the 1,595,181 tons produced in the 2023/2024 season (the largest lemon harvest recorded to date), according to the provisional balance that accounts for the fruit exported, processed, and marketed in the domestic market, weight losses, and unharvested fruit.
By variety, the forecast is the Fino lemon will experience an 18% drop and the Verna lemon a 31% fall.
Ailimpo's Board of Directors, with representatives from ASAJA, COAG, UPA, Cooperatives, Exporters, and the Industry, has validated the forecast and set out the strategic guidelines for this new lemon season based on stability, prudence, the elimination of speculation, profitability for all the links in the chain, and compliance with contracts.
The organization also highlighted the enormous importance of the Agriculture Councils prioritizing the good management of plant health and the fight against pests and diseases, which, together with climatic conditions, will determine the percentage of commercial fruit (net production) over the total harvest (gross production).
