Westfalia secures Japanese export market for avocados

In an effort to diversify international market access for its produce, Westfalia Fruit, a fresh produce supplier, has entered the Japanese market, marking a notable expansion of its Asian market presence. This development follows Westfalia's strategic positioning of South African avocados as premium produce in Japan, alongside India and China, facilitated by a bilateral agreement between South Africa and Japan. This achievement mirrors a previous milestone where Westfalia secured access to the Indian market through a phytosanitary agreement, highlighting years of effort to penetrate this market.

Additionally, Westfalia has broadened its export portfolio to China, encompassing not only avocados but other fruit varieties as well. Westfalia's COO, Graham Young, emphasized the importance of these new market entries, stating, "The expansion into these diverse Asian markets represents significant and lasting growth opportunities for our growers." He further noted the potential these market openings have for showcasing South African avocados' unique flavors and superior quality. Young expressed confidence in these agreements laying the foundation for future collaborations and relationship-building within the agriculture sector, aimed at fostering knowledge exchange and innovation.
