Lidl's investment in Malaga reaches 250 million euros

The Lidl supermarket chain has escalated its investment in products from the Malaga province, with purchases from suppliers hitting approximately 250 million euros. This move by the German company marks a 40% increase in expenditure on the agri-food sector of Malaga. Lidl has positioned itself as a significant channel for the internationalization of products from Malaga, exporting about 80% of its procurements in the province to nearly thirty countries, prominently featuring oils and pastries.

In Andalucía, Lidl's national supplier purchases exceed 26%, with the region witnessing over a 6% increase in the chain's procurement activities, totaling more than 1.95 billion euros annually. Fruit and vegetable purchases are particularly noteworthy in Andalucía, making up 75% of the total acquisitions last financial year, thereby highlighting Lidl's role as the leading buyer in the Andalusian horticulture sector.

Furthermore, Lidl has facilitated the international reach of Andalucía's products, with 84% of its regional purchases being exported to its stores across some 30 countries, amounting to over 1.64 billion euros. The company's support for local producers has led to the addition of nearly 1,000 items from Andalucía on its shelves, both nationally and internationally, including a variety of products such as fruit, vegetables, dairy, and others.

Lidl, which commenced operations in Andalucía in 1994, now boasts over 130 shops, three logistics centres, and approximately 3,400 employees in the region. As part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations in Andalucía, Lidl has committed over 20 million euros to the opening of five new stores in the region, with four slated for launch before the year's end.
