Within the January to July timeframe, Russia's apple imports from China surged by 2.9 times, reaching 22.2 thousand tons, as reported by the Rusprodsoyuz association to TASS. This marks a significant increase from the 7.6 thousand tons recorded in the same period the previous year. Concurrently, there has been a notable decline in the price of these imported apples, which fell by 24.1% year-over-year, settling at $904.4 per ton.
While Moldovan suppliers have shown fluctuating participation in the Russian market, Russia has notably augmented its apple imports from other countries such as Turkey, South Africa, Serbia, and Uzbekistan. This diversification comes as the prices of Chinese apples in Russia experienced a decrease, with the most expensive apples found in the Far East at over 239 rubles per kilogram, and the least expensive in the Southern Federal District at 128.7 rubles. Additionally, a slight decrease in apple prices was observed in the first week of September, with an average drop of 1.66%.
