Gisborne's First Fresh chief executive, Ian Albers, has been appointed as the new chairman of Citrus NZ, taking over from Wayne Hall, who has concluded a decade-long tenure. Hall's leadership was marked by advances in market development, biosecurity, and industry advocacy, earning him life membership at the recent Citrus NZ Conference.
Albers expressed enthusiasm about his new role, emphasizing his commitment to continue the momentum set by his predecessor. He aims to maintain the citrus sector's engagement, resilience, and forward-thinking approach amidst evolving challenges and opportunities. Citrus NZ highlighted Albers' extensive horticultural experience and his dedication to the citrus industry as key factors for his selection.
The organization is poised for a new chapter under Albers' leadership, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and growth. The board is confident that Albers' expertise will bolster Citrus NZ's mission to support citrus growers throughout New Zealand. This leadership transition coincides with several governance updates within Citrus NZ.
Tam Jex-Blake has been named deputy chair, with Joe Lenaghan from T&G Global, Kerikeri, joining as a new board member. Jo Pentreath has taken on the role of executive manager, with plans to engage with growers across the industry. Albers also acknowledged the contributions of Market Access Solutionz (MAS) over the past two decades, particularly in executive management and support in research, development, and biosecurity. Dr. Sally Anderson from MAS will continue to provide research and biosecurity services to Citrus NZ, ensuring ongoing support in these essential areas.
