Warner's Distillery, based in the UK, has expanded its Trash & Treasure line with the introduction of Banana Rum. This new addition utilizes overripe bananas, aiming to prevent them from being discarded into landfills. The Banana Rum is characterized by its unique flavor profile, featuring banana bread aromatics, a palate of creamy sweet vanilla, and a caramel sauce finish reminiscent of a banana split. This product joins Citrus Vodka and Tropical Rum, which are also made from rescued ingredients, in Warner's portfolio.
Tom Warner, the CEO of Warner's Distillery, highlighted the decision behind the launch, noting the availability of tropical flavors from local fruit processors and the growing popularity of rum. He mentioned that the timing coincides with the upcoming bake-off season, making it an opportune moment to introduce Banana Rum to the market. Priced at £26, Banana Rum is available at Tesco, Co-op, Marks & Spencer, and the brand's website, with an alcohol volume of 37.5%.
In 2022, Warner's Distillery was recognized as a B Corp, emphasizing its commitment to addressing food waste in the UK. The Trash & Treasure range seeks to challenge consumer perceptions of waste, promoting a reduced waste approach by repurposing fresh fruit and vegetables, which are among the most frequently discarded food groups in the UK. Warner's Distillery has recently secured £1.5 million in investment to expand its operations internationally.
