In October, a McDonald's franchisee in Michigan is emphasizing the role of local apple growers in supplying the national chain. Ken Berg, who operates six McDonald's locations in West Michigan, expressed his appreciation for incorporating Michigan products into their menu. Highlighting the importance of local sourcing, Berg noted the community and family benefits derived from such practices. Annually, McDonald's invests over $160 million in purchasing ingredients from Michigan's agricultural sector, supporting numerous families involved in the production of apples, sugar, eggs, beef, milk, and butter.
Two decades ago, Michigan apple growers were integral in the creation of apple slices for McDonald's, a relationship that has flourished over time. Presently, these growers supply the chain with 14 million pounds of apples each year, used in products like apple slices and apple pies. The contribution of these growers was celebrated during National Apple Month and Michigan Apple Month, with a gathering of farmers, state leaders, and suppliers at an apple farm near Grand Rapids.
