In 2024, the volume of customs clearance for fruit and vegetable products in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Russia, decreased by 14 times compared to the previous year.
According to Rosstat, overall agricultural production in monetary terms decreased by nearly 15% in 2024, and despite reported record harvests by Russian farmers for specific fruits and vegetables, prices for these products remain high.
According to data from Tyumen Customs, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have become the main suppliers of imported products. Meanwhile, supplies from other countries, such as Belarus and Kyrgyzstan, have virtually ceased. The Russian Agricultural Supervision Service reported a 59% decline in the overall volume of controlled imported fruit and vegetable products.
Residents note that while there is still a selection of vegetables and fruits available in stores, prices are continuing to rise. For instance, potatoes in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug were priced at approximately 0.57 USD by the end of September 2024—an increase of 45% compared to the previous year. Experts indicate that high prices are linked to increased production costs, dependence on imported seeds and machinery, and a lack of competition in the market.
