Eskom marks 200 days without load shedding in South Africa

Eskom achieved 200 days without load shedding, with the last occurrence on March 26. The utility's Generation Operational Recovery Plan has led to an 8.6% reduction in unplanned outages and a 7.7% improvement in the Energy Availability Factor. This plan is expected to support a 2% growth in South Africa's economy and enhance Eskom's financial outlook by 2025.

Dan Marokane, Eskom Group Chief Executive, highlighted the milestone as a moment of change in the energy sector, emphasizing energy security and the attraction of investment to South Africa. He noted the utility is nearing another milestone, aiming for 206 days without load shedding, a feat last achieved in 2019.

Bheki Nxumalo, Group Executive for Generation at Eskom, attributed this success to the commitment of Eskom employees. The board, led by Chairperson Mteto Nyati, undertook an independent investigation and data-driven consultation to formulate the recovery plan. Nyati praised the collective effort and strategic planning that have positioned Eskom towards a stable and reliable power supply, acknowledging the support from government and NECOM.
