San Antonio International Terminal (STI) and Frutas de Chile have begun coordinating the cherry export season, an outstanding Chilean product mainly destined for the Asian market during the Lunar New Year celebration. This year, the shipping cycle will be shorter because the holiday will be celebrated on January 29, 2025, i.e. 12 days earlier than last year.
Andrés Albertini, general manager of STI, met with Iván Marambio, president of Frutas de Chile, and other key members at the offices of Frutas de Chile to discuss preparations for the upcoming cherry export season. The sector expects to export around 130 million boxes, approximately 60% more than in the previous season.
STI has increased its capacity to store refrigerated containers thanks to new investments in infrastructure, positioning itself as the leading port in Chile for cherry exports, Andrés Albertini stated. To cope with the growing demand, STI has enabled a new park of reefer towers, with more than 2,600 connections available, ensuring an efficient transfer of refrigerated cargo.
