According to data from the French Potato Producers' Association (UNPT), up to July 2024, France exported a record 671,076 tons of potatoes to Spain, the highest quantity recorded in the last five years.
The French potato sector has experienced strong growth in the 2023/2024 season, consolidating its leadership as the world's leading exporter. Export volumes have increased by 12%, reaching 2,581,251 tons, and the value of these exports has increased by 37% year-on-year.
Between August 2023 and July 2024, France shipped a total of 2,581,251 tons of potatoes, i.e. 12% more than the 2,311,819 tons shipped in the same period of the previous season and the highest volume exported in the last five years.
Belgium was the main destination with 774,895 tons, i.e. 1% more than in the previous year. Spain ranked second with 671,076 tons, 1% more than in the previous season and the highest figure in the last five years.
Italy has also shown remarkable growth, with 308,716 tons and a 16% increase. Exports to the Netherlands increased by 89% and stood at 193,494 tons.
It is also important to highlight that French growers have reached the British market again after Brexit, exporting 22,590 tons to the UK, compared to 1,860 tons in the previous season.
