Spanish stone fruit exports exceed 974 million euros

Spain exported 557,371 tons of stone fruits for 974 million euros until July 2024. This is 30% of the 1.8 million tons it produced, showcasing this sector's strong export propensity. The percentage of exports over national production will grow when the final data of the campaign is known, as stone fruit is still being marketed.

According to data from the Customs and Excise Department of the Tax Agency, processed by FEPEX, from January to July 2024, Spain exported 557,371 tons of stone fruits for 974 million euros, figures that will increase strongly because August and September are also months of strong fruit exports.

Up to July this year, exports of all the products in this category have grown, except for plums. Up to July 2024, Spanish stone fruit exports stood as follows:

  • Nectarine: 194,253 tons (+17%) and 305.5 million euros (+9%).
  • Donut peach: 124,680 tons (+21%) and 200 million euros (+21%).
  • Peach: 82,478 tons (+5%) and 127.5 million euros (+5%).
  • Apricot: 83.593 tons (+30%) and 153 million euros (+22%).
  • Cherry: 37,311 tons (+18%) and 132 million euros (+1%).
  • Plum: 33,066 tons (-8%) and 57 million euros (-3%).

Stone fruit production in 2024 stood at 1.8 million tons, according to information shared by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food on September 24 in the summer fruit sector's meeting.

The data shows the growing importance of these fruits in the Spanish productive landscape and their strong export propensity, which is widespread in several autonomous communities, mainly Catalonia, Murcia, Andalusia, Extremadura, Aragon, and La Rioja.
