Weekly banana price report - week 43

UK banana prices show minor fluctuations amidst global trade shifts

Bananas continue to be a staple in the UK's fruit market, with wholesale prices providing insight into trends and shifts across different supply chains. The latest figures, as of October 28, 2024, reveal slight changes in banana prices at major wholesale markets in Birmingham and London.

The report compares average prices for bananas from countries like Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Ecuador. Belize's banana prices remained stable, showing no change from the previous week, staying at £0.90 per kilogram. Meanwhile, prices for bananas from Colombia and Costa Rica saw slight drops. Costa Rican bananas fell by 4.5%, with the price per kilogram decreasing from £0.98 to £0.94. Similarly, Colombian bananas recorded a decline of 8.5%, with prices now at £0.77 per kilogram, down from £0.84.

Ecuador, one of the major banana exporters, also reported a minor decline, suggesting global market conditions might be affecting shipments. However, the stability in Belizean prices suggests either steadier supply or less impact from international trade fluctuations.
