Kyrgyzstan proposes import ban on apples to support local producers

The proposal to ban apple imports was put forward by Deputy Baktybek Maripov during a session of the Jogorku Kenesh (parliament). According to him, this year's apple harvest is good, which is why juice factories are buying the product from farmers for 2-3 som (EUR 0.02-0.03) per kilogram. Middlemen are buying it from the population for 20-30 som (EUR 0.22-0.32) per kilogram.

"The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry should be instructed to help farmers export apples and to ban their import," the deputy suggested.
