The Agroworld exhibition in Almaty, Kazakhstan, has officially opened its doors. Futura srl, an Italian company specialising in the sorting of fruit and vegetables, has been attending the fair for several years now to meet new and existing customers.

"The fair runs from 30 October to 1 November," says Omar Papi, CEO of Futura srl, "and the debut looks promising. But there are fewer European companies than before. Only the Netherlands has a significant presence, and there are few European companies. For example, in our sector, apart from us, the only other company from Italy is Unitec."
The area with Dutch companies
"Our potential customers are investors, often from outside the agricultural world, who come into the sector to diversify their business. They buy large tracts of land and set up processing plants, for which they need technology for sorting fruit and vegetables, as well as for the cold chain and storage. But all this could be slowed down by the international political situation."

"The geopolitical situation between Russia and Ukraine and in the Middle East is certainly having a negative impact," continues Papi. "I have also noticed that there are far fewer companies from Turkey this year than in previous years."
Futura focuses on fruit and vegetable processing. Papi highlights the presence of many exhibitors from the CIS region, the countries of the former USSR. "We are meeting our existing customers as well as other potential customers. Even 2025 could be a good year for new projects. Most of the requests we receive are from customers who need to process apples, but also greenhouse vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers," he concludes.
