The citrus season has kicked off with challenging prospects ahead. "We have started with more demand than supply for clementines. Also, the night-time temperatures have been warmer than usual and that's delaying the fruit's development," says César Claramonte, CEO of Grupo Clasol. "To this we must add the recent heavy rains in several regions of Spain, which have made the harvest more difficult and affected the condition of the first varieties."
Grupo Clasol has started the new citrus season with the inauguration of its most modern and state-of-the-art warehouse, located in Betxí, a municipality in the province of Castellon, which has the capacity to process 50 million kilos. It is equipped with electronic graders which sort oranges and clementines based on color, size, weight and quality. It also has vertical weighing machines to optimize storage space and a hot water disinfection system to improve the effectiveness of the treatments applied to the fruit.
The facility, equipped with the latest technology, will serve as a pilot model for the implementation of the "Lean" methodology, which will be replicated in the group's other warehouses in different locations.
In this warehouse, Grupo Clasol is currently working with Oronules, Navelina, Arrufatina and Clemenules, and it will be working at full capacity in fewer than 3 weeks, packing 500 tons a day.
With this inauguration, the group already has 5 warehouses up and running with a combined packing capacity of 1,000 tons per day and 130 million kilos of citrus fruits.
