The big pineapple: South Africa's giant

The Big Pineapple, located in Bathurst, South Africa, is the world's tallest pineapple-shaped building at 16.7 meters. Built in 1990, it was designed to honor the role of pineapples in the region's agricultural economy. The building sits on Summerhill Farm, which features an experimental pineapple field.

Visitors can enjoy various attractions inside the four-story building. There's a gift shop offering pineapple juice, jams, chutneys, ice lollies, and pineapple-themed souvenirs like tea towels and hats. A museum highlights the history of pineapples, and an observation deck on the upper floors provides views of the farmland. For family fun, kids can meet the Big Pineapple's mascot, and visitors can book a tractor ride through the pineapple fields. Access to the museum and observation deck costs R25 (about £1.10) per person.
