Importers have announced a maximum price for their products in exchange for an exemption from duties.

Israel to lower prices on basic goods including frozen vegetables in 2025

The Ministry of Economy, Israel, has published a decision on the allocation of duty-free quotas for the import of some basic products in 2025. Importers are required to limit prices in exchange for an exemption from paying state duties. However, the criteria by which products were deemed "basic" raise questions. Thus, in 2025, the list includes grape juice, frozen vegetables, and crushed tomatoes.

The taxes which the state has waived represent a significant blow to the economy in an already difficult period, but the goal of this step is to ensure low prices for consumers.

A duty-free quota for the supply of 80 tons of crushed tomatoes was won by Tomer Import and Marketing and Rami Levy Marketing. "Tomer" has committed to selling three cans of crushed tomatoes for a maximum price of 9.5 shekels, while "Rami Levy" - for 9.6 shekels.

A check by Ynet shows that currently, the prices for three 400-gram cans of crushed tomatoes in retail chains fluctuate around 14 shekels (EUR3.54).
