Exports of ware potatoes continued their fine momentum in October 2024, according to CNIPT in the December 19th issue of Pomme de terre Hebdo. "Volumes for the month of October were up 15% from October 2023, with over 236,000 tons exported. In terms of value, the increase from last year for the same month was 7%."

"In terms of volume, the two main destinations for French potatoes are Spain and Belgium, with around 64,000 tons each, followed by Italy with almost 30,000 tons. The momentum built up over the last few months in the United Kingdom is once again being confirmed (despite the limited volumes), while the Netherlands (+29%), Portugal (+28%), and other destinations (+57%: Israel, Senegal, Switzerland...) have all contributed to boosting the market. Some destinations, however, were down from last year, including Germany, Italy, Greece and Eastern Europe."
"Overall, despite possible transport problems and some discussions about quality that may arise, the demand has not weakened for several months. Over the first three months of the campaign (August to October), export volumes rose by 17% from last year. This is the best start to an export campaign in the last 5 years. In terms of value, the rise in October was 7% from last year, with Spain in first place, followed by Belgium and Italy. Over the first three months of the campaign (August to October), export volumes rose by a cumulative 10% from last year. Even if the average value per ton is slightly down, this is still the best start to an export season in 5 years."
