Brazil's banana export volume reached 49 thousand tons in 2024, marking a 13% decrease from the previous year, as reported by Comex Stat. Contributors from Hortifrúti/Cepea attribute this reduction to a controlled national supply of dwarf bananas and competition from Bolivia and Paraguay within the Mercosur market during specific periods.
In 2024, the primary export destinations were Uruguay, accounting for 50% of Brazil's total banana exports; Argentina, with 40%; and the Netherlands, with 5%. December 2024 saw a 53% decline in export volume compared to November 2024, with shipments totaling 2.95 thousand tons. This decline aligns with the typical seasonal reduction in national supply. Nonetheless, the December 2024 export volume was 79% higher than in December 2023, influenced by a temporary supply increase during certain weeks due to warm weather conditions.
