Pheegyan bananas dominate Myanmar's market with year-round demand

Pheegyan bananas, cultivated in Mandalay, are accessible year-round and are the most consumed variety in Myanmar. The primary demand originates from the Yangon Region, with additional orders from Meiktila, Kyaikto, and Mawlamyine.

"At present, Pheegyan sales have elevated compared to Rakhine and Theemhwe bananas. Pheegyan is the most-consumed banana in Myanmar and it is available in all seasons and the price is also good. Yangon is the major destination," stated Ko Shwe Yoe, a banana trader from Mandalay.

According to traders, the last monsoon season saw an uptick in Pheegyan banana sales. Market conditions exhibit variability across different regions and states.
