Volume picking up on Mexican yellow mangoes

Yellow Mexican mangoes have begun shipping. "Some people started with irradiated fruit in late December and then the hot water-treated fruit began in January," says Christopher Ciruli of Ciruli Brothers. "As we go into March, every week you'll just gain more volume."

As for Ciruli Brothers, it will begin shipping Champagne mangoes in the first week of March out of Texas and Arizona. Volume will begin around the 15th of March and peak supply should last until the 21st of April. "That will be the peak of the early deal–there'll be a secondary deal with another peak in June and July," adds Ciruli, adding that the weather has been favorable with plenty of rain out of season that creates better size.

That said, weather conditions have pushed the flow of the season somewhat–right now, Mexico is about 50 percent behind in harvesting compared to 2024. "I don't think that's going to be indicative of the whole season. I would expect that Mexico would end up on a positive note with higher exports than in 2024. It will just take a while to catch up with those first few slow weeks in early February," says Ciruli.

Peru's season
This comes at a time when Peru has hit the peak of its season and is winding down its shipments of Kent mangoes. Fruit from Peru is expected to finish shipping in the later part of March.

As for demand, Ciruli says it's been an extremely reasonable marketing situation from December onwards with a good volume of mangoes at single-digit pricing. "There have been a lot of ads in January and February on mangoes. This may not be the case in the early part of March but from March 15 onwards, mango ads will be out leading up to Cinco de Mayo," he says.

The company will begin shipping Champagne mangoes in the first week of March out of Texas and Arizona.

However, this year's spring timing will also be a factor given 2024 saw a very early Easter in March which created some distance between promotions for that holiday and Cinco de Mayo. This year? It's the opposite with a very late Easter. "It'll not be enough time for us to reset our inventories and schedules before we hit Cinco de Mayo which is on a Monday this year," he says, adding that that means ads will be running the Wednesday prior which is extremely close to the Easter holiday and may not be the best time to promote. Following that, promotable volume should be available from the week of May 12th until the 4th of July.
