The frequent rain has been good for lemons

"We are shipping an average of six to eight pallets a day"

"We are in the middle of the harvesting and marketing season. Thanks to the rain between late January and early February, our lemons are reaching a larger, ideal size, and thus fully falling into the premium segment. We are shipping an average of six to eight pallets a day, but we are expected to increase deliveries from 15 March," explains the president of Consorzio di Produttori di Limoni Associati, which owns the Limoré trademark, Pietro Buongiorno (pictured below).

"Our produce is traced and guaranteed along the supply chain. Our lemons release an intense aroma and have a limonene content of 75%, as well as a juice yield of over 40%."

The main destinations are the big retail chain platforms, both in Italy and foreign countries such as Switzerland, Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Belgium, as well as non-EU countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.

"Italian lemons are generally suffering a sharp drop in prices, mainly due to massive imports from other EU and non-EU areas. We need more checks along the supply chain, as we often suffer from unfair competition to the detriment of honest farmers."

The Consortium boasts a careful organization of its logistics, which is much appreciated by consumers. "We harvest, package, and ship on the same day, thus guaranteeing freshness and timeliness for operators. For us, the customer comes first, it is, therefore, necessary to ensure the highest quality standards. We would like to reiterate that all branded lemon products come from Rocca Imperiale (Cosenza) and feature an edible peel. This means that the lemons are not treated with waxes or antifungal agents, and can be eaten whole."
