Moldova ranks among the top ten global producers and exporters of walnuts, and according to authorities, the development of this sector remains a priority.
During the National Walnut Producers Conference, President Maia Sandu emphasized the economic importance of the walnut industry and announced new investments aimed at expanding production, modernization, and plantation growth.
The event brought together experts, producers, and exporters who discussed best practices, international experience, and the impact of climate change on walnut harvests.
Currently, Moldova exports walnuts to Germany, France, and Romania, with walnut plantations covering over 23,000 hectares.
In 2023, the government invested 26 million Moldovan lei in expanding plantations and improving infrastructure. By 2030, authorities plan to plant an additional 3,900 hectares with high-yield varieties, modernize processing facilities, and access new foreign markets. These measures are expected to create new jobs and increase export revenues, further strengthening Moldova's position in the global walnut trade.
