Hansruedi Gallmann, Head of Sales and Marketing at Tobi Seeobst:

"2024 was an emotional rollercoaster"

The extreme weather events in 2024 also had a significant impact on fruit growing in Switzerland. "It was an emotional rollercoaster: first the wet summer and then a sunny, beautiful autumn. The cold, wet weather in the summer had a negative impact on summer fruits. However, thanks to the fine weather in late summer and fall, the fruit harvest was very good. Apples, pears, and plums enjoyed a potentially record-breaking harvest. Last year, we were also able to put the newly built warehouse in Egnach into operation – a highlight from an infrastructure perspective. We were able to keep to the schedule very well and thus complete the construction in time before the harvest began," says Hansruedi Gallmann (pictured below), Head of Sales and Marketing at Tobi Seeobst AG.

The industry program for the sustainability of top fruit, which was introduced three years ago, is now being expanded. Gallman: "We are looking forward to actively promoting stone fruit, especially cherries, plums, and apricots, at the production level in this sustainability program. Another point is the new apple variety, Bloss." Furthermore, sustainability continues to be a major topic. "There are small changes in various packaging machines at our locations in Egnach and Bischofszell. Some are being replaced by newer, more innovative machines, while others are being added. In the area of packaging, we are also constantly looking for more sustainable, biodegradable alternatives. As long as no fully biodegradable materials are available, we are acting according to the motto 'less is more'. This means that we are using the existing materials in the most environmentally friendly way possible."
