Japanese oranges dominate Naungtaya market

Japanese oranges, cultivated primarily in Hsipaw Township, are currently the most sought-after fruit in Naungtaya Township's market. Their popularity stems from their thinner skin and sweeter flavor compared to other local varieties. Major demand comes from Yangon, Mandalay, Myawady, and Hpa-an.

An official at Zaw Lwin Oo shop stated, "Japanese oranges are selling well, at least five to seven hundred cases per day. They are the best-selling fruits. Japanese oranges are mainly grown in Hsipaw. The main customers are people from Yangon, Mandalay, Myawady, and Hpa-an. Their taste is sweet and fragrant. Oranges from other regions have a thicker skin and a slightly milder taste."

In addition to oranges, seasonal strawberries, and garlic are also experiencing strong sales, while tomato prices continue to decline. "Currently, the sale of seasonal strawberries is brisk. Garlic is selling well among the crops. The price of groceries has fallen slightly. The largest fall is seen in tomatoes- available at $0.095 - $0.14 per viss at the farm. Its price dropped by $0.33 - $0.38 more. It has been about 15 days," he noted.
