Costa Rica monitors potential U.S. tariffs amid export concerns

The United States accounts for 47% of Costa Rica's exports. Recent tariff measures announced by Donald Trump, including "reciprocal tariffs," warrant close monitoring for potential implications on the business sector. The focus of these tariffs is on Mexico, Canada, and China, with uncertainty about their global application.

Rodnney Salazar, president of the Chamber of Foreign Trade, stated, "We think it is premature to talk about these measures. We must closely monitor the implementation of these measures and their evolution, and whether there will be any impact on Costa Rican exports to the United States and make informed decisions."

Key exports such as pineapple and banana could be affected. However, the Chamber of Exporters has opted to refrain from immediate commentary, choosing instead to analyze export data to the United States before forming an opinion.
