Later start to Florida blueberry season anticipated

The supply of imported blueberries is still steady coming out of Chile. "There are a few more weeks left in the import season and then we will be moving to the domestic season in Florida," says Katiana Valdes of Crystal Valley Foods based in Miami, Florida.

Blueberries are still steadily arriving from Chile.

Compared to last year at this time, there is slightly less volume on imported blueberries. "It's not significantly lower but supply is about good 20 percent less from Chile," says Valdes, adding that current supply is also coming from Mexico.

Looking ahead at the domestic season
For the South American import fruit season from Argentina, Peru, and Chile, it began on time. However, the domestic blueberry season is expected to start a few weeks later than in years past in both Florida and, later, Georgia, due to colder weather. Though even with that later start to the domestic season, the total volume is expected to be similar to last year.

Compared to last year at this time, there is slightly less volume on imported blueberries.

As for the demand for blueberries, it's good and steady for the popular fruit.
