51% of the fruit and vegetables imported by Spain in 2024 came from third countries

In 2024, Spain imported 4.3 million tons of fresh fruits and vegetables, i.e. 6% more than in the previous year. 51% of these imports (2.2 million tons) came from non-EU countries and 49% (2.1 million tons) from the EU. Total purchases amounted to 5,001 million euros, 66% of which came from third countries.

In 2024, Spain's fruit and vegetable import volume from EU countries increased more than from non-EU countries. Fruit and vegetable imports from other Member States grew by 12% to 2.1 million tons and imports from third countries grew by 2% over 2023, totaling 2.2 million tons, according to data from the Customs and Excise Department of the Tax Agency processed by Fepex.

In value, the opposite happened. The value of fresh fruit and vegetable imports from third countries increased by 12% and stood at 3,295 million euros, accounting for 66% of the total. Meanwhile, the value paid for imports from EU countries only increased by 9%, totaling 1,706 million euros and accounting for 34% of the total.

France was Spain's leading supplier in 2024 with 1.1 million tons, followed by Morocco with 455,086 tons.

The total value of imports amounted to 5,001 million euros, i.e. 11% more than in 2023.

The data processed by Fepex only includes data related to fresh fruit and vegetables, which fall under tariff chapters 07 (subheadings 0701 to 0709) and 08 (subheadings 0803 to 0810).
