Hai Duong garlic yield up 15% as harvest concludes

Farmers in Nam Sach district, Hai Duong, are finalizing the 2024 winter garlic harvest. The fresh garlic yield has increased compared to the previous year.

In Nam Tan commune, approximately 10 hectares of garlic are being collected and sold directly in the fields. Despite the season's end, garlic plants remain green, with robust roots and large bulbs. The average yield is 1 ton per sao, marking a 15% rise from last year. This trend is consistent across most garlic-growing areas in the district.

Favorable weather conditions, with minimal rain and pests, have contributed to the high yield. Farmers employ beneficial biological products to enhance soil quality, promoting healthy growth.

Beyond Nam Tan, other communes like Cong Hoa and Thai Tan are also completing their garlic harvests and transitioning to spring vegetables. Nam Sach district planted 1,621 hectares of onions and garlic, with garlic covering 69.1 hectares. Purple garlic is preferred for its spiciness and market appeal.

Post-Lunar New Year, the onion harvest was completed, yielding about 800 kg per sao. Farmers earned approximately $205 - $246 per sao from onions and garlic.
